Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Altavista's Winning Streak

If Altavista was feeling good fresh off their 68-42 takedown of William Campbell last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Altavista Colonels fell 64-53 to the Appomattox County Raiders on Friday. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Colonels this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 65-57 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Appomattox County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Cam Flythe, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 21 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Flythe a new career-high in points. Riley Chandler was another key player, putting up ten points in addition to six assists and six rebounds.

Altavista moved to 9-7 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Appomattox County, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 11-6 record.

Altavista wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 63-60 victory against Rustburg on the 1st. As for Appomattox County, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-52 loss against Nelson County on the 4th.
