Basketball Recap: Marion Takes a Loss

Marion played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Lafayette Jefferson Bronchos, falling 50-26. The Giants have struggled against the Bronchos recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Marion saw an underclassman step up: freshman Nyomi Hahn almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine blocks. Those nine blocks gave Hahn a new career-high.

It was another big night for Maya Layton, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds for Lafayette Jefferson. Layton is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Brihana Orellana, who went 5 of 6 on her way to 14 points.

Marion's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Lafayette Jefferson, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 15-4.

Marion has already played their next contest (against Adams Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Lafayette Jefferson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 61-60 defeat against Richmond on the 25th.
