Baseball Recap: Clay Takes a Loss

Clay fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Perrysburg on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Yellow Jackets by a score of 5-4. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Yellow Jackets earlier this season, when they won 2-1.

Bryce Besgrove was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one double. Brayden Toneff also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Clay's defeat dropped their record down to 21-8. As for Perrysburg, the victory was the 17th in a row for them, bringing their record up to 23-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Clay will challenge Big Walnut at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Golden Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Perrysburg, they will square off against Strongsville at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Yellow Jackets 2.8, the Mustangs 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
