Baseball Recap: West Wendover Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

West Wendover had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 16-5 margin over the Silver Stage Nighthawks. The result was nothing new for the Wolverines, who have now won seven matches by seven runs or more so far this season.

Alonzo Carrillo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

In other batting news, Tavian Gonzalez was a standout: he scored four runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March. Another player making a difference was Adrian Perez, who went 1-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.

West Wendover always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

West Wendover's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.3 runs over those games. As for Silver Stage, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: West Wendover beat Silver Stage by a score of 2-1 on Saturday.
