Softball Recap: Marquette Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Marquette, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Yorkville Christian Mustangs a 10-0 shutout on Saturday. Considering the Crusaders have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Savanah Erickson's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Avery Durdan was incredible, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Hunter Hopkins, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs.

Marquette moved to 14-4 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Yorkville Christian, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, Marquette will host St. Bede at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Yorkville Christian, they will head out to challenge Herscher at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
