Parkway South hadn't done well against Westminster Christian recently (they were 1-6 in their previous seven matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Patriots had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 4-2. The Patriots have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Wildcats, too.

Drew Birkenholz got the start for Parkway South and what a start it was: he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Birkenholz has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. Brennan Boyer picked up the save, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Parkway South's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Cannes, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That's the most hits Cannes has posted since back in April. Evan Bacon was another, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The victory snapped Parkway South's losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 9-15 record. As for Westminster Christian, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-9.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Parkway South will face off against Rockwood Summit at 4:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Falcons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so the Patriots' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Westminster Christian, they will challenge Marquette at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
