Softball Recap: Shepherd Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

After losing to Ogemaw Heights the last time they met, Shepherd decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Bluejays walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Falcons on Tuesday. The win was nothing new for the Bluejays as they're now sitting on three straight.

Lylah Curtiss spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Leela Engelhardt was incredible, going 3-for-5 with four RBI and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Avery Veale, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Shepherd kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Shepherd's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-5. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.4 runs over those games. As for Ogemaw Heights, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Shepherd will welcome Harrison at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hornets have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 15.8 runs per game on average), something the Bluejays will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Ogemaw Heights, they will venture away from home to challenge Farwell at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
