Baseball Game Preview: Asheville Cougars vs. North Myrtle Beach Chiefs

Asheville is 0-3 against North Myrtle Beach since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Cougars will face off against the Chiefs at 6:00 p.m.

On Wednesday, Asheville and West Henderson finished up their game with a 6-6 tie.

Meanwhile, North Myrtle Beach had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.7 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Wednesday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over the Seahawks.

Sawyer Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on CJ Oxendine, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

With that draw, Asheville's record moves to 12-4-1. As for North Myrtle Beach, their record now sits at 14-4.

Asheville came up short against North Myrtle Beach when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 5-2. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
