Baseball Game Preview: Randle Lions vs. Carnegie Vanguard Rhinos

The Randle Lions will face off against the Carnegie Vanguard Rhinos at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Randle is coming into the contest hot, having won their last three games.

Randle barely beat Fort Bend Kempner the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 12-0 win two weeks ago.

Randle got a great performance from Jasen Gutierrez as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Gutierrez has posted since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Cristian Elizondo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Alex Whitsitt, who went 2-for-3 with four stolen bases and one run.

Meanwhile, Carnegie Vanguard hadn't done well against Westbury recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. The Rhinos came out on top against the Huskies by a score of 5-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Rhinos.

Grant Go was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. He has become a key player for Carnegie Vanguard: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise. Bennett Woolsey also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Randle's victory bumped their record up to 16-12-3. As for Carnegie Vanguard, their win bumped their record up to 11-6.
