Baseball Game Preview: South Allegheny Gladiators vs. Steel Valley Ironmen

For the second straight game, South Allegheny will face off against Steel Valley. The Gladiators will be playing in front of their home fans against the Ironmen at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Allegheny's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Steel Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

South Allegheny is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Steel Valley a 16-0 shutout on Monday. The Gladiators haven't had any issues with the Ironmen recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Josh Jackowski made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off seven hits. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because South Allegheny is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 4-6 otherwise. Jackowski was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season.

In other batting news, South Allegheny got a massive performance out of Koltin Keener, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one double. Keener is becoming a predictor of the Gladiators' success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 3-7 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Mason Campano, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.

South Allegheny always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .618. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

South Allegheny's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Steel Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-9.
