Softball Recap: Searsport Comes Up Short

Searsport extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 16 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They came up short against the Bucksport Golden Bucks, falling 27-0. The matchup marked the first time this season in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

As for Bucksport, their win was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

For Bucksport's part, Marina Keene and Natalie Simpson were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Keene tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Simpson tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. At bat, Keene got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs and two RBI, while Simpson went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Bucksport got a massive performance out of Jetta Shook, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Emma Clement was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four runs and three RBI.

Looking ahead, Searsport will take on Lee Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Bucksport, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Mattanawcook at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
