Academy of the Holy Names extends road losing streak to three

Recap: Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars vs. River Ridge Royal Knights

After flying high against the Wesley Chapel Wildcats last Saturday, the Academy of the Holy Names Jaguars came back down to earth. Academy of the Holy Names fell 39-30 to River Ridge on Thursday. Academy of the Holy Names was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as River Ridge apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

When it comes to explaining why Academy of the Holy Names lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tegan Drinkwater. Despite the final result, she scored six points along with nine rebounds and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Morgan Hunt, who scored six points along with eight rebounds.

Leading River Ridge to victory were JP Ferguson and Lauren Lee. Ferguson scored nine points along with six steals, while Lee scored ten points along with eight rebounds. Ferguson hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. Another player making a difference was Zaree Nichols, who scored two points along with nine rebounds and four steals.

Academy of the Holy Names bumped their record down to 11-7 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for River Ridge, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-3.

Academy of the Holy Names will head out on the road to face off against Tampa Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for River Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Mitchell at 2:00 p.m. Mitchell will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings (they are ranked 185th, while River Ridge is ranked 40th).
