Basketball Recap: Atkins Camels vs. Southern Guilford Storm
If Atkins was riding high fresh off their 52-13 takedown of Carter G. Woodson back in December of 2024, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Atkins Camels were beaten by the Southern Guilford Storm 78-42 on Friday. The Camels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Storm apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.
Amanda Worrell and Emerson Kiang-Wilson certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Worrell went 8 for 19 on her way to 19 points in addition to seven boards and four steals, while Kiang-Wilson posted six points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Atkins smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in four consecutive matches.
Southern Guilford's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Danielle Walker, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten boards. The dominant performance gave Walker a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlee Slaughter, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 13 points along with seven boards and seven steals.
Atkins has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-8 record this season. As for Southern Guilford, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-10.
