Volleyball Recap: Basic Falls Short Against Ranked Centennial

Basic faced Centennial in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Wolves fell just short of the Bulldogs by a score of 3-2. While the Wolves didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Bulldogs 25-21 in the first set.

Basic took Centennial into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking eight-point loss. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-18, 15-7.

Porter Hughes paced Basic's offense, picking up 19 kills. Hughes got some help from Derek Dennett and his 29 assists. Dennett also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Ty Hardy, each putting up two.

Basic moved to 19-8 with that defeat, which also ended their three-match winning streak. As for Centennial, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 27-5.
