Football Recap: Santa Gertrudis Academy Takes a Loss

After flying high against Progreso last Friday, Santa Gertrudis Academy came back down to earth. The Lions lost 28-7 to the San Diego Vaqueros on Friday. The Lions haven't had much luck with the Vaqueros recently, as the team has come up short the last eight times they've met.

Sam Trevino threw for 138 yards and one TD. Percy Davis Lll was his top target, picking up 124 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Elijah Riojas rushed for 104 yards.

Santa Gertrudis Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-4. As for San Diego, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-4.

Looking ahead, after each having a week off, Santa Gertrudis Academy and Bishop will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Lions will be up against the Badgers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 35 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for San Diego, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Progreso at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Vaqueros will be up against the Red Ants' rather soft defense (which has allowed 25.5 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
