Baseball Recap: Vanguard Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Vanguard extended their winning streak to three on Wednesday, bumping them up to 10-1. They were the clear victors by a 7-1 margin over the Trinity Catholic Celtics. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.

Spencer Payne spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brody Katich was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Another player making a difference was Fabian Ochoa, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one double.

As for Trinity Catholic, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-3. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Trinity Catholic's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gavin Greathouse, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Vanguard will square off against Lake Weir at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Hurricanes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.82 runs per game on average), something the Knights will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Trinity Catholic, they will face off against Union County at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Celtics' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Fightin' Tigers have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
