Softball Recap: Ponaganset Wins Going Away Against St. Mary Academy-Bay View

Ponaganset played in-conference for the first time on Monday and got just the result they were looking for. They were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the St. Mary Academy-Bay View Bengals. The Chieftains' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Mattea Mello made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Mello was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Kyla Angell was incredible, going 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one stolen base. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Claire Barrett, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Ponaganset hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Mary Academy-Bay View struck out six times.

The victory got Ponaganset back to even at 2-2. As for St. Mary Academy-Bay View, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Ponaganset will square off against rival Moses Brown at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, St. Mary Academy-Bay View is set to challenge their familiar foe East Providence at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
