Baseball Game Preview: Berkeley Yellowjackets vs. Alameda Hornets

For the second straight game, Berkeley will face off against Alameda. It'll be a Battle of the Bugs Berkeley Yellowjackets challenge Alameda Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Berkeley and Alameda meet (five straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. Berkeley's pitcher stepped up to hand Alameda a 3-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Yellowjackets have won by exactly three runs.

Not much got past Sasha Spahr, who gave up just two hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Alameda off the board. Spahr also tossed no walks, which is notable because Berkeley is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 2-4 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Arson Ormsby, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one double. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

Alameda has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. Berkeley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-5 record this season.
