Yorktown is a perfect 4-0 against Frankton since May of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Tigers will take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Yorktown lost 7-1 to Mt. Vernon on Thursday. The Tigers have struggled against the Marauders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Yorktown got a good showing from Isaac Whitt, who pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Whitt has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Yorktown saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reid Turner, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Frankton's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They came up short against Mississinewa, falling 9-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Eagles have suffered since April 29th.
Hunter Ulery was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had over his last four games.
On the hitting side, Caine Oakley was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Yorktown's record now sits at 12-14. As for Frankton, their record is now 12-9.
Frankton's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Yorktown has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Frankton, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Yorktown keep running through batters, or will the Eagles buck the trend?
Everything went Yorktown's way against Frankton in their previous meeting back in May of 2023, as Yorktown made off with a 13-5 win. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
