Basketball Recap: Heritage Eagles vs. Regis Jesuit Raiders
The Heritage Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their tenth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 79-27 loss at the hands of Regis Jesuit. While losing is never fun, Heritage can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Raiders are ranked seventh).
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Avalon Lux-offermann, who scored eight points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Grace Hankins, who scored six points.
Regis Jesuit had a senior duo take command as Hana Belibi dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds and Coryn Watts scored 17 points along with four steals. Watts hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Jane Rumpf was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
Heritage has traveled a rocky road recently having lost 12 of their last 14 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season. As for Regis Jesuit, they pushed their record up to 13-6 with that victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
Heritage will take on the Golden Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Regis Jesuit, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Highlands Ranch is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
