Softball Recap: Lee County Trojans vs. Perry Panthers
Lee County fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Perry on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell 7-4 to the Perry Panthers. The Trojans were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in August of 2022.
Christina Benton put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over 7.1 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Benton was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4.
Benton wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was McKenzie Davis, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Lee County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Perry, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 8-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lee County will welcome Northside at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Lee County is facing Northside at the right time seeing as Northside is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Perry, they will face off against East Laurens at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
