Preview: Lamar Thunder vs. Woodland Park Panthers

The Lamar Thunder will head out on the road to square off against the Woodland Park Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Lamar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Tuesday.

James Irwin typically has all the answers at home, but Lamar proved too difficult a challenge. They walked away with a 56-49 victory over the Jaguars.

Lamar found their leader in underclassman Jacob Dunning, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Dunning also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Alex Williams, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds.

Lamar's lineup was just a bit different on Tuesday as Diego Estrada got a bit more time on the court (15 vs. his season average of 6.19). Estrada made the most of the opportunity, scoring ten points. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, Woodland Park's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their eighth straight loss. They were beaten by Florence 75-40.

Lamar has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Woodland Park, their loss was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-14.

Lamar came up short against Woodland Park when the teams last played back in February of 2023, falling 51-44. Can Lamar avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
