Basketball Recap: Lyrique Sartin's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Bell Creek Academy over First Baptist Academy

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Bell Creek Academy can now relate to. They took a hard 70-51 fall against the First Baptist Academy Lions on Monday.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lyrique Sartin, who posted 17 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Sartin's evening made it 27 games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Josiah Payne, who almost dropped a double-double with ten points and nine rebounds.

Sartin wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Bell Creek Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as First Baptist Academy only posted nine assists.

Jayden Petit went supernova for First Baptist Academy, dropping a double-double with 23 points and 13 boards. With that strong performance, Petit is now averaging an impressive 17.5 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Azunque, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Bell Creek Academy's loss dropped their record down to 17-11. As for First Baptist Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 games, which provided a nice bump to their 27-2 record this season.

Bell Creek Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for First Baptist Academy, they will face off against Sports Leadership & Management at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Sports Leadership & Management's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
