Chatham is 9-1 against Gretna since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Cavaliers will face off against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m.

Chatham fell victim to Appomattox County and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Raiders, falling 9-0. The Cavaliers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Gretna). They walked away with a 12-7 win over Altavista on Tuesday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Hawks considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Alyssa Keesee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Makayla Morris was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with four runs and two RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Miranda Hearn, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with four RBI and one double.

Gretna always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Gretna is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Chatham, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Chatham beat Gretna 6-2 in their previous matchup back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cavaliers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
