Basketball Recap: Independence Knights vs. Garland Owls
Independence was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 50-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garland Owls. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Knights of the 46-33 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.
Leading Garland to victory were Zoe Sample and Penny Chandler. Sample dropped a double-double on 12 points and 18 rebounds, while Chandler went 6 for 9 en route to 16 points plus five rebounds. The dominant performance also gave Chandler a new career-high in field goal percentage (67%). Kaylee Stephens was another key player, posting nine points plus seven rebounds and two steals.
Independence's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Garland, their record now sits at 3-5.
