Basketball Game Preview: San Clemente Tritons vs. San Juan Hills Stallions

The San Clemente Tritons will head out on the road to take on the San Juan Hills Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

San Juan Hills will be up against a hot San Clemente team: the squad just extended their winning streak to seven. San Clemente put the hurt on Trabuco Hills with a sharp 60-34 victory on Friday. Given the Tritons' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while the Mustangs are ranked 425th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

San Clemente's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Chase Tolliver, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten boards, and Desi Gutierrez, who went 7 of 9 en route to 15 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Tolliver a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Christian Fernandez, who posted three points along with eight boards and seven assists.

Meanwhile, San Juan Hills entered their tilt with Tesoro on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They took their game with ease, bagging a 67-25 win over the Titans.

San Clemente has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. As for San Juan Hills, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7.

Everything went San Clemente's way against San Juan Hills in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as San Clemente made off with a 67-44 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Clemente since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
