Basketball Recap: Collett Sanders' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Riverton Parke over North Putnam

Riverton Parke was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their eighth straight loss. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 57-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the North Putnam Cougars. The matchup was a 26-26 toss-up at halftime, but the Panthers couldn't quite close it out.

Several Panthers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Collett Sanders, who almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Jonah Hopkins, who went 6-for-12 on his way to 18 points and eight rebounds.

Even though they lost, Riverton Parke smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've managed all season.

Riverton Parke's record is now 7-13. As for North Putnam, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-16.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Panthers face off against the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. South Vermillion is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season. As for North Putnam, they will head out on the road to challenge North Montgomery at 7:30 p.m. on February 25th.
