Preview: New Bern Christian Academy vs. Liberty Christian Academy Heat
Two dominant guards in KC Peter and Mark Bachmann are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. New Bern Christian Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face the Liberty Christian Academy Heat at 8:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
New Bern Christian Academy suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Friday. They were dealt a 59-23 loss at the hands of Pungo Christian Academy. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points New Bern Christian Academy has scored all season.
The losing side was boosted by Peter, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Meanwhile, Liberty Christian Academy struggled with assists on Tuesday (Southeastern Christian Academy had 12 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Liberty Christian Academy had to suffer through a rough 80-49 loss at the hands of Southeastern Christian Academy. While losing is never fun, Liberty Christian Academy can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 511th, while Southeastern Christian Academy is ranked 206th).
Despite the loss, Liberty Christian Academy had strong showings from Bachmann, who scored 16 points along with four steals, and Luke Cavanaugh, who scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Drake Davidson, who scored two points along with five rebounds and four blocks.
New Bern Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Liberty Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.
Keep an eye on the arc in Monday's matchup: New Bern Christian Academy have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 5.7 threes per game. It's a different story for Liberty Christian Academy, though, as they've been averaging only 3.9 threes per game. Given New Bern Christian Academy's sizeable advantage in that area, Liberty Christian Academy will need to find a way to close that gap.
