Baseball Recap: Dixon Gets the Win

Dixon hadn't done well against West Carteret recently (they were 0-8 in their previous eight matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Bulldogs had just enough and edged out the Patriots 3-1. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Patriots back in March, they had to take a 6-5 loss.

Chris Tesgle spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Dixon is 5-2 when he allows at most two walks, but 1-6 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Dixon saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chris Guslander, who scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Dixon pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for West Carteret, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-6.

Looking ahead, Dixon will square off against Swansboro at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Pirates have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for West Carteret, they have already played their next match, an 11-0 loss against D.H. Conley on the 9th.
