he top infield prospects in the country, is recuperating after having surgery to remove a blood clot in his neck, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times.
The
Bishop Amat (La Puente, Calif.) third baseman reportedly first complained of having a dead arm several weeks ago. Doctors discovered and removed a blood clot in a vein in his neck Friday, according to Lancer coach Andy Nieto.
Ruiz, a member of Team USA 18U and a MaxPreps Junior All-American Team, is committed to play at USC next year.
According to the Times, Ruiz could be released from the hospital this weekend. Father Rudy Ruiz told the Times that the clot was caused by a repetitive pitching motion that caused a pinching of the vein near the clavicle.
The elder Ruiz also told the Times that his son could be back in action in a few weeks although his exact return date is undetermined.
Bishop Amat is scheduled to participate in the National Classic in Fullerton, April 9-12. The Lancers are the defending tournament champion.
