Baseball Recap: Eastern Lebanon County Comes Up Short

Eastern Lebanon County fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Donegal on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-3. The Raiders haven't had much luck with the Indians recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Austin Smith was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 4-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, Isaac Tanger and Braden Gettle did some serious damage despite the final result: Tanger got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one RBI, while Gettle went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Eastern Lebanon County's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Donegal, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 9-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Eastern Lebanon County will venture away from home to face off against Conestoga Valley at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. As for Donegal, they will head out to challenge Northern York at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Polar Bears' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
