Basketball Recap: Rank Disadvantage No Problem for Chaparral

The Chaparral Pumas didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against the California Condors on Monday, but they still walked away with a 76-71 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Pumas' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while the Condors are ranked 248th).

California's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andy Rodriguez, who posted 15 points. Aham Nwosu was another key player, putting up 15 points.

The victory got Chaparral back to even at 3-3. As for California, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.

Looking ahead, Chaparral will be home for the holidays to greet King at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. California will take on Ocean View in a holiday battle at 1:30 p.m. on Friday. The Condors are facing the Seahawks at the right time seeing as the Seahawks are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
