Basketball Recap: Willow Spring Beats Fuquay - Varina for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Willow Spring waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They managed a 65-61 win over the Fuquay - Varina Bengals. Given the Storm's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Bengals are ranked 363rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Willow Spring had a senior duo take command as Brady Williams went 5 of 8 on his way to 14 points and six boards and Grant Overman dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. Overman has been hot for a while, having also posted two or more blocks the last 36 times he's played. JyMont Kizer was another key player, putting up eight points.

Despite the loss, Fuquay - Varina still got an impressive performance from Abdou Diop, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Jackson Semanisin also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steal of the season.

Willow Spring has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season. As for Fuquay - Varina, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-13.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Willow Spring will head out to square off against Clayton at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Willow Spring is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 66.5 points per game this season. As for Fuquay - Varina, they will head out on the road to face off against Corinth Holders at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
