Softball Recap: Spanish Springs Continues Home Dominance on Thursday

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Spanish Springs ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Douglas Tigers, sneaking past 5-4. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 7-3 win back in April.

Hannah Fitzpatrick spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on ten hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Izzy Chisholm, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. That's the most doubles she has posted since back in March. Mackenzie Kirkendoll was another key player, going 2-for-5 with two runs.

Spanish Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. They are 15-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Spanish Springs pushed their record up to 20-8-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Douglas, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 19-8.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Spanish Springs is set to take on their familiar foe Reed at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cougars 3.8, the Raiders 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Douglas will square off against rival Carson at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
