Baseball Recap: Soquel Picks Up Eighth Straight Win on the Road

Soquel took a seven-run defeat the last time they faced off against Leigh, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Knights narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Longhorns 7-6. This was payback for the Knights, who suffered a 9-2 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jake Escalante made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Escalante wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Connor Corlett, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Corlett has posted since back in March.

Soquel pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Leigh, with the defeat, they broke their 11-game winning streak and moved their record to 11-2.

Soquel wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 12-0 victory against San Lorenzo Valley on the 15th. As for Leigh, they have also already played their next contest, a 9-4 win against Bret Harte on the 12th.
