Baseball Recap: Punxsutawney Comes Up Short

Punxsutawney dropped their record down to 11-4 on Friday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Central Mountain Wildcats by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-4 on Friday.

Nevin Day put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. Day was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Day wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Brody Stouffer, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base. Stouffer has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

As for Central Mountain, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 14-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.6 runs this season.

On Central Mountain's side, Jase Seltzer was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base and two RBI. That's the most RBI Seltzer has posted since back in March.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Punxsutawney will challenge Bradford at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Central Mountain, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bellefonte at 4:30 p.m. on the 14th.
