The Martins Ferry Purple Riders will take on the Claymont Mustangs in a tournament on Wednesday. Martins Ferry is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.

Martins Ferry's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when Weir hitters got past them. The Purple Riders took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Riders on Monday. The Purple Riders' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Maddie Lucas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and four unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Abbey Snedeker stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Giana Chirpas, who went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Claymont narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Ridgewood 7-6. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.

The team relied heavily on Ava Edwards, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Makyah Maple, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

Martins Ferry's defeat dropped their record down to 22-4. As for Claymont, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-9.
