Softball Recap: Franklin Pierce Triumphs

While Franklin Pierce's win against Fife wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cardinals narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Trojans 6-5. The win continues a trend for the Cardinals in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won three in a row.

Kiley Sledge made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Leila Kennach was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Franklin Pierce's record is now 12-1. As for Fife, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-6.

Coming up, Franklin Pierce will welcome Washington at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Cardinals surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fife, they are taking a road trip to challenge Cascade Christian at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cougars' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Trojans' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
