Basketball Recap: Deer Valley Comes Up Short

Deer Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were beaten by the Heritage Patriots 86-27. While losing is never fun, the Wolverines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 939th, while the Patriots are ranked 247th).

Loss or not, Deer Valley got some senior leadership from Dominic Dolojan and Lucas Vazquez. Dolojan posted six points and four steals, while Vazquez scored eight points. Vazquez continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played.

Heritage's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jace Bernard led the charge by putting up 12 points. Another player making a difference was Alvin Ella, who had 11 points.

Deer Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Heritage, the win got them back to even at 8-8.

Deer Valley has already played their next matchup, a 73-68 victory against Armijo on the 13th. As for Heritage, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-56 loss against Pittsburg on the 14th.
