Baseball Recap: Steele Canyon Triumphs

Steele Canyon lost to Montgomery back in March of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Cougars came out on top against the Aztecs by a score of 8-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cougars.

Andrew Bravo made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was even better at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Caden Davey and Julian Cervantes did most of the damage at the plate: Davey went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base, while Cervantes went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That's the most hits Cervantes has posted since back in March. Jonah Arens also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Steele Canyon always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Steele Canyon's record is now 5-10. As for Montgomery, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Steele Canyon will take on Grossmont at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Montgomery, they will face off against Bonita Vista at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The game will give the Aztecs their first taste of in-conference action this season.
