Softball Recap: Bakersfield Comes Up Short

After soaring to 20 runs the game before, Bakersfield was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They lost 11-2 to the Gainesville Bulldogs. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Bulldogs earlier this season, when they won 5-2.

Bakersfield's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-5. As for Gainesville, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bakersfield will host Winona at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Lions' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Wildcats have averaged an impressive 6.6 runs per game this season. As for Gainesville, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Conway at 4:30 p.m.
