Volleyball Recap: Athens Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Athens lost against Wellsboro back in October of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Wildcats took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hornets. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Hornets 25-20 in the first set.

Athens started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-17.

Ellie Mosher paced Athens' offense, picking up 12 kills. Mosher got some help from Meg Wiles and her 11 assists.

Wellsboro's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ellie Largey, who had seven digs and four aces. Largey is also crushing it when it comes to assists: she's posted at least 12 every time she's taken the court this season. Taylor Main was another key player, getting five digs and five aces.

Athens has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 1-6-1 record this season. As for Wellsboro, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-1.

Athens didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 loss against Abington Heights on the 13th. As for Wellsboro, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-2 defeat against Williamsport on the 13th.
