Soccer Recap: Cypress Gets Big Win over Higher-Ranked El Modena

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pacifica, Cypress was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged the El Modena Vanguards out 3-2. The win was all the more spectacular given the Centurions' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 712th, while the Vanguards are ranked 314th).

Cypress hit El Modena with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Gio Loza, Nico Hernandez, and Miles Weis.

Cypress' victory bumped their record up to 3-7-1. As for El Modena, they moved to 12-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Coincidentally, both will both be playing Sonora the next time they take the pitch. El Modena will host Sonora at 5:00 p.m. on Friday, while Cypress will head out to face them at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
