Recap: Morenci Wildcats vs. Benson Bobcats
After a string of three wins, the Morenci Wildcats's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell just short of Benson by a score of 46-43. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Morenci has suffered since December 27, 2023.
Despite the defeat, Morenci saw an underclassman step up: Rozlyn Funari scored 19 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Funari has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Wilson, who scored six points along with seven steals.
It was another big night for Kaylei Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds for Benson. Taylor has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played.
Morenci's defeat dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Benson, their win bumped their record up to 14-9.
Morenci will head out on the road to face off against Bisbee at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Benson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pima at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Pima presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Benson in Arizona (Pima is ranked 28th, while Benson is ranked 143rd).
