It's playoff time, and Fairmont had no trouble coming through when it counted. They never let the Fairfield Indians get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won nine matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Fairfield's batters probably weren't too happy with Jaylin Turner, who pitched a no hitter and racked up eight Ks (she gave up two walks). Turner has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Carlee Netherton, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Perdue, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
Fairmont was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.
Fairmont has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Fairfield, their loss dropped their record down to 16-6.
As of now, neither Fairmont nor the Indians have any future games scheduled.
