Softball Recap: Apopka Starts off Right with Win over Lake Mary

Apopka had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Lake Mary Rams as the Apopka Blue Darters made off with an 11-1 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory the Blue Darters have posted against the Rams since April 15, 2021.

Apopka got a great performance from Ava Millspaugh as she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave Millspaugh a new career-high in strikeouts.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Hagan Mcgatlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Taylor Smith, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Apopka always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Mary only posted an OBP of .211.

Lake Mary's defeat was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Apopka will challenge Mount Dora at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Apopka is facing Mount Dora at the right time seeing as Mount Dora is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Lake Mary, they will take on Eustis at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
