Northwest Area and Montgomery are an even 3-3 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Rangers will venture away from home to square off against the Red Raiders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Northwest Area is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They took their game on Saturday with ease, bagging a 62-6 victory over Sayre. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Rangers.

Shane Hempel continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 121 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries. He also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because Northwest Area is 2-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 0-3 otherwise. Loegan Diltz was in the mix too, providing the Rangers with three TDs.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 12 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Diltz, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Northwest Area's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Matt Zugarek and Colton Smith, who each picked up one sack apiece. Northwest Area received some extra help from Ben Bonham, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Montgomery hadn't done well against Muncy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. The Red Raiders were the clear victors by a 27-7 margin over the Indians. The result was nothing new for the Red Raiders, who have now won four matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Montgomery's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Northwest Area, they picked up their first home victory, bumping their record up to 2-4.
Northwest Area took a serious blow against Montgomery in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 45-8. Can the Rangers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
