Basketball Game Preview: Gaston Christian Eagles vs. Carmel Christian Cougars

Gaston Christian hasn't had much luck against Carmel Christian recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Gaston Christian Eagles will host the Carmel Christian Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Gaston Christian will be strutting in after a win while Carmel Christian will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Tuesday, Gaston Christian humbled Hickory Grove Christian with a 74-42 victory. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Lions are ranked 209th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gaston Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Rilpuou Mabor Marier, who went 5 of 9 en route to 11 points along with six boards and five blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Southern, who went 5 for 7 on his way to 10 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Carmel Christian unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Tuesday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 48-47 to Ambassador Christian School.

Carmel Christian's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-6. As for Gaston Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 19-7.

Things could have been worse for Gaston Christian, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-43 loss to Carmel Christian in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Thankfully for Gaston Christian, Kameron Taylor (who almost dropped a double-double on 29 points and nine rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
