Basketball Recap: Rector Comes Up Short

Rector's game on Tuesday was all tied up 27-27 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They took a 59-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Maynard Tigers. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Tigers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2019.

Despite the loss, Rector still got an impressive performance from Rylee Wilburn, who went 12-for-25 to rack up 30 points and seven boards. Wilburn's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least 17 points. Cearra Machon was another key player, putting up seven points.

Rector has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-4 record this season. As for Maynard, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-6 record this season.

Rector will be playing at home against Cross County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Maynard, they will head out on the road to square off against Crowley's Ridge Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
