Basketball Game Preview: Smithsburg Leopards vs. South Hagerstown Rebels

Smithsburg hasn't had much luck against South Hagerstown recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Smithsburg Leopards will take on the South Hagerstown Rebels at 7:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Last Friday, Smithsburg had to suffer through a 80-47 loss at the hands of Governor Thomas Johnson. While losing is never fun, the Leopards can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Patriots are ranked 105th).

Meanwhile, South Hagerstown suffered their biggest loss since December 17, 2024 on Wednesday. They lost 69-46 to Williamsport. The Rebels were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 41-10.

This is the second loss in a row for Smithsburg and nudges their season record down to 2-7. As for South Hagerstown, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-7.

Smithsburg beat South Hagerstown 78-68 in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Smithsburg since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
